Marketing Association of Pakistan (MAP) Lahore is pleased to announce its 7th seminar of the session 2019-20 on “Pakistan, CPEC & the Changing Regional Scenario” on Thursday, December 05, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. in Cultural Hall, Pearl Continental Hotel, Lahore.


Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Chairman, Foreign Affairs Committee, will be the Guest Speaker.


He is a founding Chairman, Pakistan-China Institute, the first think-tank in Pakistan devoted to Pakistan-China relations and relations with the region.  He also served as Chairman, Parliamentary Committee on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) from September 2015 to February 2018.


He has been a Cabinet Minister, Journalist, university teacher and political analyst. He was also Leader of Pakistan’s Delegation to the UN Human Rights Commission at Geneva in 1993. After the October 12, 1999 military coup, Mushahid Hussain was held without any charges as a political prisoner for 440 days, including a period in solitary imprisonment. The world’s leading human rights organization, Amnesty International, declared him a ‘Prisoner of Conscience’ making him the first such Pakistani to be so honoured for the year 2000.


Mushahid Hussain has a Master’s degree from the School of Foreign Service in Georgetown University at Washington. While studying in the US, he was President of the Pakistan Students Association and was awarded a Congressional Internship to work in the United States Congress.


At age 29, he became the youngest Editor of any national daily, in the English-language “The Muslim”, published from the capital, Islamabad, which was respected for its independent positions.  He has written extensively on civil-military relations and governance issues, including a book on ‘Governance in Pakistan’.


He was Pakistan’s Representative to the 15-member Commission of Eminent Persons, set up by the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), whose reform proposals were adopted by the Mecca Islamic Summit in December 2005.  He also represents Pakistan in the ‘Wise Men Council’ of OIC Think Tank.  


President Xi Jinping personally conferred the prestigious ‘Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence Friendship Award’ at Islamabad on April 20, 2015.
